SUMMARY OF RESPONSIBILITIES
The Aerospace Corporation is seeking a Electro-Optical Engineer Graduate Intern for an internship opportunity. This position will be located in El Segundo, CA.
The qualified candidate will become part of the Integrated Sensor Design and Analysis Department and will support design and performance characterization of state-of-the-art image sensors for future space missions.
Supporting optical design and testing of customer sensor systems Participating with an interdisciplinary team in ongoing research or technical programs with academic collaboration partners Applying standard techniques and procedures to carry out a series of prescribed scientific and/or engineering tasks Training and mentorship will be provided.
Performance standards to be successful in this internship position include:
Strong written and oral communication skills Good theoretical understanding of optical system engineering including analysis and testing Good analytic skills in electro-optical sensor performance including radiometry, stray light, optical design, and testing Demonstrated strong analytic problem solving skills in visible and infrared electro-optical sensor performance, including radiometry, pan chromatic, multi-, and hyperspectral image processing and exploitation Strong computer programming skills in an engineering application environment such as MATLAB, ENVI/IDL, or Mathematica Must work well in a team environment Must possess strong organizational, time management and project management skills Demonstrated flexibility and ability to adapt to changing organizational need Effective interpersonal skills to coordinate efforts and work with other internal and external organizations Demonstrates behavior that is consistent with the company's values of Dedication to Mission Success, Technical Excellence, Commitment to Our People, Integrity and Objectivity.
Bachelor's degree completed and currently enrolled at an accredited college/university degree program pursuing a Master or PhD degree in physics, optical engineering, electrical engineering, computer science or related program Good theoretical understanding of optical system engineering including analysis and testing Good analytic skills in electro-optical sensor performance including radiometry, stray light, optical design, and testing Demonstrated strong analytic problem solving skills in visible and infrared electro-optical sensor performance Strong computer programming skills in an engineering application environment such as MATLAB, ENVI/IDL, or Mathematica Demonstrated experience with optical design code such as CodeV and/or Zemax, experience with stray light code such as FRED, and other related optical software packages such as LightTools and SolidWorks. Demonstrated strong verbal and written communication skills Minimum GPA 3.0 Must be able to obtain a security clearance US Citizenship required Completion of courses in optical engineering (fundamental topics in optics such as radiometry, stray light, optical design, and testing) and ability to analyze basic optical systems Demonstrated experience with optical design code such as CodeV and/or Zemax, Novice-level experience with stray light code such as FRED, and other related optical software packages such as LightTools and SolidWorks. Demonstrated experience with C++, Java, Python, Mathematica, or MATLAB and ability to independently develop and test beginner-level software Successful completion of a design project in field of study, demonstrating application of technical knowledge to real-world problems.
GPA 3.5 or higher Active security clearance
