HPE is seeking an experienced Applications Engineer to lead our technical efforts in the weather domain. As an Applications Engineer you will work on bench marking, profiling, and tuning key HPC software applications across the full range of HPE product offerings. Application focus for this position will be primarily in earth sciences focusing on weather, climate, and ocean modeling applications.
Analyzing and documenting application performance characteristics of the applications for which you are responsibleIdentifying and evaluating new technologies and innovation for alignment with technology roadmap and business valueDriving HPE differentiation, both in performance and features, into key applicationsLeveraging domain expertise, business acumen, and experience to influence decisions of executive business leadership, development partners, and industry standards groupsProviding technical consultation to strategic application developers in support of application stability and performanceSupporting the HPE sales team with pre-sales technical assistance and customer benchmarking related to the applications you supportFrequent interaction with HPE product engineering and marketing on current and future product features and directionsDrive application related studies and projects as well as author/co-author application specific technical reports and papers
In addition to the individual responsibilities described above, we are looking for a candidate who can take a technical leadership role in the weather domain. Additional key responsibilities of this role include:
Working closely with the weather segment marketing leader to help define and shape overall market penetration and growth strategiesLead a team of skilled application engineers including defining, delegating, and prioritizing technical work to achieve defined goals in the weather segmentServe as the primary technical interface to the partner community and in key customer engagements
Education and Experience Required:
Master's, or PhD degree in engineering, mathematics, computer science, atmospheric science, or equivalentKnowledge and experience with the requirements of operational weather forecasting and weather/climate researchKnowledge and experience with key weather/climate/ocean applications and workflows10 years of software engineering experience
Knowledge and Skills:
Experience with multiprocessor hardware architectures, capabilities, and parallel programming techniques including detailed knowledge of parallel programming standards such as MPI and OpenMPExperience with HPC software development tools including compilers, debuggers, and performance measurement toolsProficiency in a high-level programming languages such as C and FortranProficiency with the Linux operating systems including scriptingStrong self-driven work ethic and motivationAbility to multi-task with strong organizational skills and attention to detailExcellent analytical and problem solving skills.Integrity, customer focus, innovation, teamwork, and accountability in daily workExcellent written and verbal communication skills; mastery in English and local language. Ability to effectively communicate technical plans, design proposals, and negotiate options at business unit and executive levels.
