PenFed is hiring a Staff Attorney in our headquarters office located in McLean, VA. The primary purpose of this job is to provide legal counsel and services to management and staff of Pentagon Federal Credit Union (PenFed) and its subsidiaries.

Provide legal advice concerning a variety of matters including the establishment, interpretation and revision of credit union policies, organizational compliance with applicable laws and regulations, contractual agreements, personnel and fiscal issues.
Assist and provide counsel to other OGC and PenFed personnel for a broad array of consumer retail loan and account products and services regarding legal matters including but not limited to bankruptcy, Uniform Commercial Code, trusts, guardianship and conservatorship documentation, powers of attorney, levy and garnishment processes.
Represent or assist outside counsel with the representation of the credit union and its subsidiaries in a variety of actions including civil and criminal suits, special settlements, delinquency collection and employment actions.
Assist with negotiating transactions, often involving substantial organization assets and commitments for PenFed and its subsidiaries.
Assist with the development and maintenance of operational programs, working with divisional representatives and conforming proposed practices and procedures with legal requirements.
Draft, review and revise various legal documents involving the interests of the credit union, subsidiaries and members.
Keep informed of legislation, regulations, judicial and other legal developments and trends affecting real estate title and agent companies, federal credit unions and related matters.
Prepare and submit necessary reports to Senior Vice President, Deputy General Counsel, including writing contract compliance and administration.
Analyze and interpret laws, rulings, and regulations with probable outcomes for the business.
Serve the credit union and subsidiaries as assistant corporate secretary.
Interact with PenFed and subsidiary staff, vendors, and senior government officials on a regular basis.
Other duties as assigned consistent with qualifications.
Education and Experience
Equivalent combination of education and experience is considered.
Graduate degree from an accredited law school required.
Active member of the highest court of the state bar required.
Minimum of one (1) to three (3) years' of experience as a practicing attorney in the fields of employment, real estate, corporate and commercial and financial law preferred.
Experience with client interviewing, investigation, legal research, and analytical reasoning
Familiarity with the operations of financial institutions and applicable law.
Excellent verbal and written communication skills.
Experience working in fast-paced environments and able to multi-task.
Strong working knowledge of Microsoft Excel and Word.
Ability to manage multiple projects simultaneously.
Proven project management skills and results driven.
Excellent oral and written communication skills required.
Ability to work in a team environment and highly organized.
This position will not supervise employees.
Licenses and Certifications
The employee will be required to maintain membership in the bar of the highest court of a state.
While performing the duties of this job, the employee is regularly exposed to an indoor office setting with moderate noise.
* Most roles require working in an office setting with moderate noise and the ability to lift 25 pounds.*
Limited travel to various worksites is required.
