Newport News Shipbuilding, a Division of Huntington Ingalls Industries, is seeking a senior Business Solutions Engineer to join our IT Business Technology and Transformation team of highly qualified, diverse individuals, and take on IT architecture and planning initiatives critical to the growth and success of the company. Responsibilities include but are not limited to the review, assessment, and selection of technologies in an effort to help the Company implement value-add solutions by:
Staying abreast of market, industry, and company trends and proposing and facilitating discussions to new approaches and opportunities   
Maintaining a strong broad technical understanding of IT infrastructure and concepts (e.g. networking, software, cyber security, identity management)                
Understanding and articulating Company vision and direction in context of IT capabilities and services to ensure appropriate awareness and buy-in            
Identifying opportunities to improve business processes through technology, system, and non-system driven changes               
Assisting in the development and maintenance of business capability and system functionality roadmaps               
Leading, assisting, or consulting on proposed solutions to ensure alignment with Company strategies, standards and principles, and documented processes, industry best practices, etc             
Ensuring consistency in the evaluation, selection, design, and implementation of Solutions            
Reviewing and approving the high-level design of systems, subsystems, and integrations as they relate to the business and technical requirements      
Providing input into planning activities for new technologies and integrations to ensure technical aspects are captured early in the process 
Assisting in implementation approaches and operational concepts     
Successful candidate must be self-directed, engaged, and follow through on commitments. Skills include:
Excellent written and verbal communication, including technical writing
Ability to troubleshoot, problem solve, and apply analytical skills
Understanding of systems engineering and architecture concepts
The ability to conduct cost/benefit analysis
Business case development
Modeling techniques and methods
Designs and defines system architecture for new or existing complex computer systems. Determines systems specifications, input/output processes, and working parameters for hardware/software compatibility and maintainance of system security. Coordinates design of subsystems and integration of total system. Identifies, analyzes, and resolves program support deficiencies. Develops and recommends corrective actions. May provide technical guidance for database administrators and software developers.
