Job Description:

This A&AS position reports to the DTRA IAA Division Lead within the DTRA R&D Data Integration and Analysis Department. The Systems Engineer will be the lead technologist as well as researcher/subject matter expert within the Division working with the national laboratory scientists, engineers and performers to develop and transition enhanced analytic capabilities within and external to the Defense Threat Reduction Agency. As a subject matter expert will employ creative thinking, complex problem solving, time management, and effective interpersonal communication - both written and verbal.
Principal Duties
Conduct systems and application evaluations, analyze results to determine commercial, industrial, scientific, medical, military, or other uses for developmental software/systems Consult with sponsors, stakeholders, end-users, managers and vendors to determine computing goals and system requirements Work closely with computer engineers and natural scientists to solve complex computing problems across the C-WMD and CBRNE threat spectrum Apply and adapt theoretical principles to advise and guide development of new computer software and/or hardware solutions Help lead research to design new computer technology for improved performance of existing computer systems and software as well as the development of new hardware or computing techniques and materials Employ sophisticated analytics programs, machine learning and statistical methods to prepare data for use in predictive and prescriptive modeling Perform complex calculations as part of the analysis and evaluation of data, using computers Devise new algorithms to solve problems and build new tools to automate work Publish their most significant CS findings Requirements
Ph.D. in Computer Science (can be specialized in Algorithms, Combinatorics and Optimization, Artificial Intelligence or Machine Learning) Machine learning tools and techniques (e.g. k-nearest neighbors, random forests, ensemble methods, etc.) Well-versed in CS-related math skills, e.g., linear algebra, calculus, statistics & discrete mathematics. Must possess world-class soft skills in complex problem-solving, communication and creative thinkingExperience to work autonomously with minimal oversight and supervision. Some Travel Required (Domestic & Overseas) Secret clearance with ability to obtain Top Secret Desired Qualifications
Advanced skill level with standard machine learning techniques and frameworks including but not limited to Theano, Tensorflow, Caffe, Torch Experience analyzing large scale data from a variety of sources Design, validation, and characterization of algorithms and/or systems Contributions to open source projects
