Job Description:

Carter Machinery Company, the authorized Caterpillar dealer for Virginia and southern West Virginia, is seeking a Logistics Operations Supervisor on 1st shift at our Chesapeake, Virginia facility. This position is responsible for overseeing the day to day operations of Carter's delivery vehicle fleet in a manner that ensures a superior customer delivery experience, maximizes employee productivity, reduces ownership/operating costs and reduces contract hauling to customers. The Logistics Operations Supervisor is responsible for all aspects of delivery vehicle fleet condition, appearance and utilization, including the justification of adding and removing vehicles. Other responsibilities include providing direct supervision to assigned Logistics Drivers and staff, training Dispatchers in their role and serving as back up when needed, conducing periodic ride-along with drivers, ensuring hauls are completed legally, etc. We're seeking candidates who are dedicated self-starters with proven leadership and prior supervisory experience. Prefer background in business management or transportation/logistics; college degree preferred. Prior equipment rental experience is an added plus, as 70-80% of our internal hauls are for Carter Rental customers.
Requirements
Self-starter able to work with limited supervision. Able to adjust to changing job priorities. Proficient in the use of a computer; able to adapt to changing technology. Must be able to handle multiple tasks at once, quickly evaluate facts and maintain good judgment when making decisions. Able to maintain a high level of customer satisfaction by identifying and resolving problems promptly. Must be detail-oriented and have strong time management/organizational skills. Able to conduct regularly scheduled safety meetings and enforce all safety policies and procedures; investigate and report on-the-job accidents or safety hazards. Strong written and verbal communication skills; able to read, analyze, and interpret technical procedures or governmental regulations. Willing to travel up to 50% of the time throughout the eastern part of Carter's territory; able to work hours required to meet job and customer demands. Must meet physical requirements for the job, including the ability sit or stand for prolonged periods of time. Able to lift, carry and maneuver items up to 20 pounds in weight.
