Responsibilities:
The professionals at the National Security Agency (NSA) have one common goal: to protect our nation. The mission requires a strong offense and a steadfast defense. The offense collects, processes and disseminates intelligence information derived from foreign signals for intelligence and counterintelligence purposes. The defense prevents adversaries from gaining access to sensitive classified national security information. The need to maintain our core Cryptanalysis group is vital to provide the technical capabilities necessary to successfully execute NSA's mission. The increased complexity of supporting NSA's mission requires combined expertise in cryptanalysis, mathematics, computer science and related fields to achieve breakthrough results against particularly challenging, novel, or sensitive problems across NSA's mission set.

Attack Developers at the NSA analyze systems, networks and applications in order to develop high-priority offensive capabilities to solve the nation's most critical technical challenges. Developers are hired into positions directly supporting a technical mission office and receive on the job training.

Responsibilities may include:

- developing exploitation capabilities that enable collection of foreign intelligence from target networks and systems
- Reverse engineering hardware and/or software to develop new exploitation capabilities.

Skills:
- Analyze problems to determine technical solutions.
- Analyze data using mathematical/statistical methods.
- Analyze new algorithms and protocols.
- Apply mathematical or computational methods and lines of reasoning.
- Develop mathematical or computational methods and lines of reasoning.
- Analyze signals and/or cryptographic data.
- Use knowledge of cryptanalysis to diagnose and exploit encrypted material.
- Troubleshoot and debug computer code.

-Knowledge, skills, and experience in one or more of the following is desired:

- programming languages such as C or Python
-software reverse engineering/interactive debugging tools (e.g., IDA Pro, Ollydbg, gdb)
- hardware and software vulnerability analysis
- computer networking and protocol analysis (e.g. Wireshark, tcpdump)
- computer algorithms and data structures
- software development life-cycle (design, develop, implementation, debug, testing)
